CFMC Partners to Open Innovative Facility
October 22, 2018
Cumberland Family Medical Centers (CFMC) recently opened a new urgent and primary care clinic, First Choice Immediate Care, adjacent to Taylor Regional Hospital’s Specialty Physicians Clinic and Diagnostic Center in Columbia, Kentucky. The facility is open 365 days a year – even holidays – from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to serve the emergent and acute care needs of Adair and surrounding counties. All patients and insurances are accepted, and the co-pay for the immediate care center is the same as that of visiting a regular doctor’s office.
Extended hours allow “access to health care at night or on weekends when most traditional medical offices are closed,” stated Dr. Eric Loy, CEO of CFMC. “A large part of our mission is to provide ways to make health care more accessible for residents who live our area, so an immediate care type clinic seemed to be a good match for what our patients need and want.”
In addition to the advantage of providing immediate care access, First Choice also has on staff primary care providers who can provide a continuation of care for families and individuals who may need to establish a medical home. “This is the first of its kind for Adair County,” explained CFMC Board Member and Adair County resident, Jim Flowers. “It’s something Adair County has needed for a long time. I am pleased that we can offer this service to the residents of the county and for others who need health care.”
CFMC and Taylor Regional Hospital partnered to design a connected, state-of-the art facility that will provide maximum access to as many services as possible in one location. The Specialty Clinic and Diagnostic Center offers x-ray, CT, and lab services for patients, in addition to podiatry, orthopedic surgery, and neurology specialty clinics.
An open house was held on August 22, and it was attended by US Congressman James Comer and State Senator Max Wise, in addition to other local officials and leaders. In September, Senator Rand Paul also made a visit to tour the clinic and talk to clinic staff and local leaders about the community addition.
